Toby Corbett graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts degree having studied painting with renowned African-American artist Jacob Lawrence and film with noted American film scholar Richard Jameson Corbett’s skills as a painter led to an initial career in regional theatre as a scenic artist. After moving to New York City he established himself as a scenic designer for numerous off-off Broadway productions. Noted productions include The Rivals and Junemoon at The Manhattan Punchline and the American premiere of Pirandello’s Cap and Bells at the Judith Anderson Theatre. Corbett’s success in the theatre led to work as a production designer for television and film.
